5800 Engineering Technology Center
Researchers in this building study nuclear science—fission and fusion—including fuels and reactor safety. This building also houses a portion of the US ITER project. The US is a partner nation in ITER, an unprecedented international collaboration of scientists and engineers working to design, construct, and assemble a burning plasma experiment that can demonstrate the scientific and technological feasibility of fusion power for the commercial power grid.
This building includes a refrigeration laboratory, in which researchers work to develop washers, dryers and stoves to run on heat pumps for increased efficiency.
